Daniel García, born in Salamanca (Spain), was taught by Grammy-winning Panamanian jazz pianist Danilo Pérez at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Pérez had a decisive influence on Garcia’s musical development after he finished studying classical piano in his native Salamanca. It’s fascinating to hear how García’s music sparkles and shimmers with the cadences, harmonies and timbres of classical music but will then unexpectedly take a flamenco turn, dissolve into jazz harmonies or flow into a powerful improvisation. García has played with renowned musicians such as Arturo Sandoval, Greg Osby and Perico Sambeat.
With their most recent trio album for ACT Music, Wonderland, the group reaches the highest peaks of compositional and creative expression. After many years playing together, the musical interaction between Daniel and his bandmates, Reinier «El Negrón» on bass and Michael Olivera on drums, is totally organic, profound and verging on telepathic. In their concerts, the audience plays a fundamental role, since what happens on stage is only half of the equation.
