A DIALOGUE BETWEEN KEVIN LEGENDRE AND MARIANO PEYROU
Kevin Le Gendre is a journalist and broadcaster specialising in black music and literature. He is the author of the trilogy Soul Unsung: Reflections on The Band in Black Popular Music (Equinox, 2012), Don’t Stop the Carnival: Black British Music (Peepal Tree Press, 2018) and Children of the Ghetto: Black Music in Britain (Peepal Tree Press, 2024). Mariano Peyrou is a musician and writer. He has published numerous books of poetry, novels and essays, two of which are dedicated to music: Oídos que no ven. Contra la idea de música intelectual (Taurus, 2022) and Free Jazz. La música más negra del mundo (Anagrama, 2024).
In this dialogue, they will present their latest works and, moderated by journalist Yahvé M. de la Cavada, discuss their views on black music, black culture and free jazz.

KEVIN LE GENDRE
[JOURNALIST AND MUSIC BROADCASTER, UK]
Kevin Le Gendre is a journalist and broadcaster with an interest in black music and literature. Since the late ’90s he has written about soul, jazz, African and Caribbean musicians and authors for a wide variety of publications that include Echoes, Jazzwise, The Independent, TLS online and Qwest TV. He is also a presenter on BBC Radio 3 and author of several books.

MARIANO PEYROU
[MUSICIAN AND WRITER, SPAIN]
Mariano Peyrou (1971) is a musician and writer. He studied saxophone at the Prins Claus Conservatory in the Netherlands and social anthropology at the Complutense University in Madrid. He teaches jazz history and music aesthetics at the Centro Superior Música Creativa in Madrid. He has published numerous volumes of poetry, novels and essays.

YAHVÉ M. DE LA CAVADA
[MUSIC JOURNALIST, SPAIN]
Yahvé M. de la Cavada has been writing about music and culture for almost three decades. He has worked for Cuadernos de Jazz, Rolling Stone, MondoSonoro, El País, Cadena SER, Scherzo, Radio Euskadi EITB and many others.
He currently writes as a jazz critic for the magazine Scherzo and the newspaper El País. At the same time, he is developing a career as a booker for Last Tour.
