EL MOLINO

JAZZ I AM opens its seventh edition with a celebration that brings three productions from the Barcelona music scene, linked to the Taller de Músics, to an international professional audience: Carola Ortiz Duo, Clara Lai Trio, Marta Duran and Abraham Lojo.

Carola Ortiz Duo

CAROLA ORTIZ DUO

Clarinetist and singer Carola Ortiz performs in duo with multi-instrumentalist Alex Guitart in a concert of Iberian repertoire from their latest album Cantareras (Microscopi, 2023). Accompanied by electronics, textures, jazz improvisations and percussion and string instruments, both Iberian and Oriental, they fuse sounds, melodies and stories from seemingly distant cultures into a musical experience that unites different sound traditions.

LINEUP

Carola Ortiz | vocals, clarinet, electronics and tambourines

Alex Guitart | saz, Turkish lute, snare drum, daf, effects and tombak

Clara Lai Trio

CLARA LAI TRIO

Corpos (Phonogram Unit, 2023) is the first album by the Barcelona trio made up of pianist Clara Lai, bassist Àlex Reviriego and drummer Oriol Roca. The music on their album explores collective construction in the trio format, visiting different sonic and compositional zones. It is composed of pieces that act as sound bodies, finding unity in diversity. In concert, they explore the possibilities and languages of improvisation, enveloping the audience in an energetic music, also contemplative, random, with some noise, where silence coexists with all the melodic sketches.

Marta Duran

MARTA DURAN

Marta Duran is a saxophonist and composer, one of the new voices on the Barcelona scene. With her quartet, she presents Shine (New Trad Records, 2024), a new musical project and the title of her album. Shine blends the depth and acoustic sonority of jazz with touches of electronic elements, creating a unique sonic experience that takes the listener on a journey through different dimensions. Marta Duran’s compositions are influenced by traditional jazz as well as other genres such as Brazilian music and pop. Her pieces are melodic and singable, and Shine seeks to convey a constant musical sincerity, creating a dialogue between the musicians and opening up the emotions of each member of the group to connect with the audience in the most honest way possible.
