Music brings together intellectual, social and emotional aspects, which makes it a hugely important tool for inclusion and social transformation. Three social integration projects are presented here which have had significant results in the communities where they have been carried out.
Cabal Musical, Taller Obert, both Taller de Músics initiatives, and The European Caravan, an initiative of Madame Fortune. Cabal Musical provides support for musical talents in at-risk neighbourhoods around the Besòs area of Barcelona. Taller Obert is a mentoring project for social rehabilitation through a programme of musical activities. The European Caravan works on exchanges between four cities – Ghent, Antwerp, Skopje and Barcelona – to connect young people form Roma and non-Roma communities through music and theatre.
