Unexpected

THURSDAY 28

19.30H

Unexpected is a trio of jazz formed at the beginning of 2000 and formed by the pianist Sergi Servent, main composer, the double bass player Tempe Hernández and the drummer Dani Domínguez. The group is characterized by its own unique sound that travels between the stylistic frontiers that exist between jazz, blues, rock, contemporary music, free jazz and avant-garde music, without neglecting the most ethnic and regional. Unexpected has no fear to break with the dogmas and mix different aesthetics from the point of view of Sirvent.

As a trio they have released four albums with the prestigious label Fresh Sound New Talent: Unexpected (2003), selected as Best Record of the Year by the Jazz Association of Catalonia; Play the Blues in Need (2005), album based on improvisations and versions of Ornette Coleman and in which the drummer Joe Smith was invited to join the trio forming a quartet with two drums; Munchies (2014) and Odisseo (2015). In 2018 they record their last album Involucions, edited by the independent label SF records, presented at different venues in the city of Barcelona and in the festival L\’Hora del Jazz, Tete Montoliu Memorial.
