With his first album El museo vacío (R3 Records, 2009), Pablo Selnik began a recording career with so far more than 50 albums either as a leader or as a sideman, as well as a collaborator on a multitude of projects across a wide spectrum of musical styles and genres.
After a stay in Paraguay, in 2020 he released a second album by his quartet, entitled Decadence as a Virtue (Fresh Sound), along with some of the most important jazz musicians on the Paraguayan scene, such as Bruno Muñoz, Chino Corvalán and Seba Ramírez. Taking advantage of Ramirez’s stay in Barcelona, they joined up with Jaume Llombart and Santi de la Rubia to form a third generation of the quartet. They are presenting a new repertoire that draws on all the experience accumulated over 22 years of working in music, not only on the Barcelona scene, but also in Hong Kong, Munich, Montevideo and Budapest, among others. Their new songs have been composed by the members of the new line-up and see the lines of contemporary jazz blurred by the addition of elements from other genres such as country, 20th century classical music and stoner-rock. Here, personality and expression are prioritised over mere stylistic canons.
