We Are Equals is a training programme for emerging professionals in the music sector promoted by the British Council since 2019 with the support of the British Embassy in Spain. After several editions focused on electronic music and classical/contemporary music, the March 2024 edition will focus on jazz and modern music with two workshops.

Co-curated by Taller de Músics and the British creative producer and coach Lucy Woolley, each workshop is led by a professional from the United Kingdom and deals with a specific theme: on the one hand, musical experimentation with AI and, on the other, the recognition of other professional paths beyond the stage.

WORKSHOPS

CAREER PATHS BEYOND THE STAGE

10:00 – 12:30

13:30 – 16:00

OCAÑA, 1ST FLOOR

This workshop has a very clear objective: to provide tools, ideas and alternatives for the professionalisation of young artists in the music industry. Success on stage is not within everyone’s reach, and that is why young professionals must look for alternatives to give an outlet for their creativity and passion for music. In this participative session, four professionals from different areas of the UK industry will enter into a dialogue with the attendees in order to share their knowledge, experiences, advice and whatever else arises.

It will be led by Lucy Woolley, who will share her experience of working at Edition Records, providing insight into the processes, challenges and opportunities of releasing music through a record label. Another of the speakers is Ash Doherty, who will share her knowledge on topics such as niche markets, artistic personality, the possibility of working on multiple projects at the same time and how to connect these dots to build a career. Kim Macari, a long-time panellist, will address topics ranging from artistic identity and cultural gentrification to protest and criminal justice. The fourth speaker is Jill Rodger, who will talk about the importance of the role of the professionals who work behind the scenes: administrators, programmers, managers, marketing experts, etc.

Music experimentation with AI

10:00 – 12:30

13:30 – 16:30

OCAÑA, FLOOR -1

The workshop «Musical Experimentation with AI» offers a unique and interactive experience for musicians interested in Artificial Intelligence (AI) music technology. Attendees will delve into the philosophy and design of AI music systems and explore how these tools can augment, rather than replace, human creativity.

The workshop emphasises hands-on learning and, in addition to introducing participants to experimentation with artificially intelligent music systems, it will allow them to discover their capabilities and learn how these systems are integrated into their creative processes.

To close the workshop, there will be a space to show and share experiences and reflections in front of an audience and, in addition, there will be the opportunity to present the musical results live.
