Carlos Cano en clave de jazz is a project led by composer and double bassist Giulia Valle, one of the most active and respected figures in today’s jazz scene in Spain. With an extensive international career and a broad discography, Valle has established herself as a creator of personal projects that combine musical rigor, a strong artistic identity, and an open approach to different musical languages.
In this project, Giulia Valle revisits the work of Granada-born singer-songwriter Carlos Cano, a key figure in Spanish songwriting, reimagining some of his most iconic compositions from a contemporary jazz perspective. Through original arrangements, the project creates a dialogue between popular song and creative jazz, preserving the poetic strength of the lyrics while expanding their sonic dimension.
The project was captured on the album Carlos Cano en clave de jazz (Satélite K, 2021), following its premiere at the Barnasants Festival. The result is a thoughtful and personal reinterpretation that bridges tradition and avant-garde, highlighting the enduring relevance of Carlos Cano’s work through Giulia Valle’s artistic vision.
