The Magnificat is a canticle from the first chapter of the Gospel of Luke, in which Mary praises and thanks God for freeing her people. It is also known as Mary’s canticle.
This concert is a prayer for the salvation of peoples, for peace, and for the brotherhood and sisterhood of all inhabitants of the planet. It is performed in three languages: Italian, English, and Arabic (Darija dialect), the mother tongue of Badrya Razem, an Italian from Bari with deep Mediterranean roots.
Badrya gives voice to Mary and invokes Peace—both within the soul and among peoples—beyond borders and walls. The program spans from Pergolesi to Philip Glass, including the Gospel texts set to music by Frisina, Allen Ginsberg’s 1966 Vietnam-era poems, and Alice Coltrane’s hymn of peace.
It also features original compositions by Giovanni Falzone.
